Women dominate Marathon Swims Virtual Challenge Results

The results for the Marathon Swims Virtual Challenge 2020 are now finalised and this includes some stunning results from many of our amazing female participants.

Marathon Swims record holder and 4-time winner Hayley Moore claimed first place in the Ultra Marathon 25k in an amazing sub-6 hour time of 5:56:55. Raise D'wan and Ceire Merrison claimed second and third places respectively.

The podium places in the Marathon 10k were also all populated by women. Pleuntje Jellema claimed first place in 2:54:00, with Marathon Swims 2019 1k Challenge winner Alice Pinney in second just over a minute behind, with Sarah Jane McDonnell in third with a time of 2:56:56.

The Marathon Swims Virtual Challenge, originally planned for 1-30 November 2020, officially finished on 11 May 2021. The COVID-19 restrictions and lockdowns had such an effect on swimming pools in the UK, that the challenge was extended to complete in 2021.

This challenge was about taking part as well as the fast times. Many participants decided not to time themselves, but simply record their distances to achieve their goal of swimming either a Marathon 10k or Ultra Marathon 25k over the 30 days.

Congratulations to all who participated in the Marathon Swims Virtual Challenge - we'll be back later in the year with our 2021 event. We'll also be announcing our Marathon Swims 2021 live event dates soon.
