Marathon Swims Founding Partner
Established in 1993, GLL is the largest UK-based charitable social enterprise delivering leisure, health and community services. Under the consumer facing brand Better, the organisation operates more than 300 public sport and leisure centres and 88 libraries in partnership with more than 30 local councils, public agencies and sporting organisations. Better leisure facilities enjoy 40 million visitors a year and have more than 650,000 members.
GLL exists to make community services and spaces better for everyone. In practice, that means investing all profits back into providing quality leisure and fitness facilities for the good of the communities where GLL operates. Alongside the organisation’s core leisure and library divisions, GLL runs sport and legacy development, health intervention and education, as well as offering the GLL Sports Foundation, one of the largest independent support programmes for talented young athletes in the UK.
Level Water is the official charity partner of Marathon Swims.
Level Water is committed to increasing the number of disabled children learning to swim in the UK.
Level Water provides each child with specialist one-to-one lessons until they are ABLE to join group swimming lessons and continue swimming forever. These lessons are for primary aged children with a physical disability or sensory impairment.
Every child who learns to swim is learning a life-saving skill. Once each child has learnt to swim 15m front crawl and backstroke, they can be safe and independent in the water, and can join group swimming lessons or join their local competitive club. But it's not just about swimming...through developing independence in the water, and being able to join mainstream classes, each child develops confidence, self-esteem and resilience.
Level Water work with 485 children a week at 65 sites around the country. By choosing to support us with your Marathon Swim, we can teach more children with disabilities how to swim and offer a lifetime of sport.
