Do Something Exciting on Blue Monday

Blue Monday is here – but it’s a time to do something exciting, not to be sad. Blue Monday was meant to be a day when we look forward to something positive, something you can't wait to do or challenge yourself with.

Blue Monday is often is billed as the most depressing day of the year. Generally falling on the third Monday of January, when we are most likely to be cold, low on cash following Christmas and furthest from payday.

Initially Blue Monday was created as a marketing/PR story by holiday company Sky Travel, the concept has taken on a life if its own. Other brands have jumped on the bandwagon and newspapers fill columns with this now annual content.

Blue Monday even has its own mathematical formula:

Where W=weather, D=debt, d=monthly salary, T=time since Christmas, Q=time since failing our new year's resolutions, M=low motivational levels, and Na=the feeling of a need to take action. Again, no units were defined; the lack of any explanation for what is meant by "weather" and "low motivational levels" means the dimensional homogeneity of the resulting "formula" cannot be assessed or verified, rendering it even more meaningless than its predecessor.

But the concept was never meant to be depressing – it was meant to motivate us to do something exciting or book something to look forward to or train for.
